- November 28: Avient Aviation's MD-11 crashed on takeoff at Shanghai's Pudong airport. 3 crew members lost their lives.
- July 15: A Caspian Airlines Tupolev 154 went down in Iran with 168 on board.
- June 30: Yemeia Airways 626, an Airbus 310, claimed 152 lives as it was making its approach on the Comoros Islands. Miraculously, one child survived.
- March 23: A FedEx MD-11 crashed on landing at Narita. It was the first fatal accident at Narita as well as the first for FedEx, as both pilots perished. The flight originated from Guangzhou, where FedEx had just established a hub. TBS has video of the disastrous landing, but the original link is gone. - February 12: Continental 3407, operated by Colgan Air, with heavy ice build-up on the Bombardier Dash-8, crashed just outside Buffalo with 49 on board. 1 person on the ground also died. This came just days after it was announced that the USA had gone two years without a single fatality from a commercial airline accident. - January 15: The now famous Miracle on the Hudson, wherein USAirways 1549, an Airbus 320 with dual engine failure, ditched in the Hudson River. All survived.
